Huntington Beach, California
As is true with most American traditions and after waking up following a long night out- nothing fulfills the hangovers of America's youth (and adults) as much as salt, fat and caffeine.
Sorry mom. I’d love to pretend all my Sunday mornings start at 7 am after an hour of hot yoga followed by a tall, refreshingly cool glass of green juice (and some really do!). Alas, I am undoubtedly and devilishly human sometimes- (more often than not) and so, this particular Sunday began with a breakfast of buttery eggs, salty sausage patties and crispy, oily, golden brown hash browns. And by breakfast I mean 2 o'clock in the afternoon. ‘Kay love you.
In the defense of the greasy, salty goodness of diner food, The Sugar Shack on Main Street is no slacker for your lazy, any time of the day, all day breakfast. With its laid back surfer vibe and chill late 90’s beach diner decor, this is the perfect spot to hit after a morning of surfing or recovering from Saturday night’s mischief. Although I'm not sure where this too adorable and cutesy name came from, I shall lovingly adorn it the "salt shack" because I couldn’t help but hear the echoes of Def Leppard’s cantors: "pour some salt on me." Oops did I say salt? No, that was not an accident. It is definitely no joke the amount I like to soak my breakfasts with. Yum. I did attempt adding a dose of healthiness with a bowl of fresh fruit, but I’m only human and there’s nothing quite like the perfect marriage of fat and salt with a big cup of diner coffee. Simple, good, go.
